If a person wishes to reside in the U.S. for work, tourism, visiting, or educational purposes temporarily, he/she may be eligible for a non-immigrant visa.  Non-immigrant visas are very convenient for international travelers, and are easier to obtain than an immigrant visa.  It is important to remember that a visa does not guarantee entry into the United States.  However, a non-immigrant visa will allow a person to request entry into the U.S. from the Department of Homeland Security.

There are several things a person can do to expedite the non-immigrant visa application process.  The first thing a person should do is to check their legal visa status.  The second thing a person should do is schedule his/her appointment with his/her embassy or consular, and pay his/her application fees.  Non immigrants who are between the ages of 14-79 must interview with the consular.  There are few exceptions.  After the visa interview, application processing takes approximately 5 work days.  It usually takes 8 weeks or more before the applicant is informed if his/her application was approved or denied.
